goodbye mountains, hello urban sprawl

leaving our deluxe ACC cabin in canmore and its commanding view of the surrounding mountains (notably the three sisters), my last few days out west were spent in calgary, at least the nights, since calgary is just as close to ghost valley as canmore is, but in calgary there was free shelter e.g. jeremy's place or his parents' place. and, in the case of the latter, there was also lots of food to feed hungry climbing bums such as ourselves. and then on our rest day, we could go to my favourite place - calgary MEC, and buy or dream about buying more ice climbing gear! and also to the camera store, and buy or dream about buying new cameras and lenses!



my flight back to montreal wasn't until monday night, and jeremy had to work monday, so i tried to walk around calgary, get to know it a bit better, try and find some soul or beauty in that city which i have never felt very fond of, despite its proximity to all things mountainous and great. this is what i found...slim pickings, yes. but even people who live in calgary don't necessarily love the city, it's just a place to live and work to make enough money to go enjoy the rockies. which is pretty reasonable, but i was still glad to be coming home to montreal.
