the tropical fish in the fountain at the extremely fancy hammam (turkish bath) in amman. even though we hadn't climbed anything yet, we went and got pampered. 2 hours of scrubbing, soaking, massage, steaming...then tea and shisha afterwards. a good way to start the trip!
(of course) floating in the dead sea. which is full of salt, but also full of garbage. ick.
a glimpse of petra - i mistakenly brought my 50mm lens so you only get to see a piece of the amazing rock hewn tombs at a time...but it's been photographed by millions before me, so you can always just google it...it's hard to capture the depth of colour of the rock anyways, with a camera. you'll just have to go there (though they're increasing the entrance fee by 300% in the next year...so maybe don't go there...)
a man playing the rababa in petra - a simple violin basically
our camp behind the rum resthouse in wadi rum. we really settled in, our campsite was complete with shisha lounge, full kitchen, bar, hammock, yoga platform, all brought with us...
more beautiful desert scenery!
on the rock bridge at burdah - we did a long route (orange sunshine) up the east face, getting terribly off route and into regions of dubious rock quality, but we pulled through and got to the bridge! and then had to run down the other side to meet our driver mohammed who had already started hiking in to find us. the bedouin have superious routefinding skills, that's certain.
our wonderful bedouin friend ali, a fellow climber, who invited us to his home for dinner and was a warm and knowledgeable host throughout our time in wadi rum.
